|Mathematics education focuses on the learning and teaching of mathematics. As a research discipline it is interdisciplinary in nature and is connected to the field of pedagogy, pedagogical psychology, and research on the education of further subject matters. Our group at the TUM (funded by the Heinz-Nixdorf Foundation) has the main research focus on processes of learning and teaching mathematics. |
Therefore, we conduct empirical research that uses mostly quantitative, partly also qualitativ methods. The two main aims are: To find precise descriptions of mathematical learning processes and to improve instruction on mathematics on the basis of profound findings about these learning processes. Of course, we cooperate with mathematics teachers and exchange our experiences with practitioners to enhance research and instruction.
