Going abroad

Why go abroad?

TUM School of Education considers study abroad to be an important, forward-thinking aspect of modern teacher training.

There are obvious advantages to be gained from time spent studying abroad:

·       increases independence and personality development

·       broadens horizons by expanding interests and activities

·       improves knowledge and practical use of a foreign language

·       allows one to become familiar with other cultures, both professional and social, and different ways of life.

Our goal is to enable as many students as possible to spend study-related time abroad by means of our partnerships with foreign universities and by providing funding possibilities. Furthermore, we ensure that the achievements attained abroad, whether academic or resulting from internships, are credited, as long as they are equivalent to the learning outcomes as defined in the Lisbon Convention.

As part of our mentoring program, we can offer students on teacher training courses the benefit of early advice on the various possibilities available for study abroad.

Where can I go?

You can get an overview of the current options on our Partner Universities webpage.

When considering study abroad, you can also refer to the information detailed in our webpages, Partner Departments and Cooperation Network with International Schools.

How do I plan to go abroad?

There are many ways to organize a stay abroad. You can use existing partnerships or partner agreements within a TUM exchange program. There is also the possibility of using an external provider such as DAAD, PAD or BLLV.

Alternatively, you can choose to organize your study abroad completely independently.

Whichever option you select, further funding is available (e.g. through DAAD or Auslands-BAföG).
